A degreed, experienced, caring teacher sometimes assisted by a second teacher to maintain at least a 1:6 teacher to child ratio takes the children through the pre-school program, introducing materials, and working with children one-on-one, visiting the various rooms on an alternating basis. Time is spent working on self-help skills such as toileting and developing the children's respect for others and the materials, as well as participating in the activities set up for the pre-school children as appropriate.
Children already enrolled in the program join the Transition group according to developmental indicators observed by the toddler teachers. Children from outside the center are welcomed at the age of 2 ½ years. Children in this group move to the pre-school group when they are totally toilet trained, are able to initiate their own activities and generally take responsibility for cleaning up their work, which is usually between the ages of 3 and 3 ½. This is a cohesive group that stays with the teacher(s) for the day.
Take a look below at two other programs available to your children: Transition Child Care and Summer Camp.
The Discovery Center alums between the ages of 6 and 8 years are welcomed back into the program for a summer adventure filled with special projects and field trips designed for the age group. Children participate in community service projects and plan special events for the other age groups.
