Early reading, writing, and math skills
Communication and problem-solving
Independence and self-confidence
Sharing, cooperation, and friendship
Emotional development and self-regulation
Kindergarten readiness GSRP classrooms use a research-based curriculum and meet Michigan’s standards for quality, safety, and early childhood education.
For 50 years, The Discovery Center has provided children in the Kalamazoo community with a nurturing place to learn, play, and grow. Our child-centered approach recognizes that every child develops differently. Teachers create meaningful learning experiences around children’s interests, allowing them to build new skills at their own pace. At The Discovery Center, your child will benefit from:
A welcoming, home-like learning environment
Experienced early childhood educators
Play-based, hands-on learning
Individual attention and encouragement
Opportunities for indoor and outdoor exploration
A strong focus on the whole child
Support for a successful transition to kindergarten
GSRP is available to eligible children who will be four years old by the program’s age-eligibility deadline. Eligibility and placement are determined through Kalamazoo County’s centralized PreK application process. Many Michigan families qualify for free PreK. Families are encouraged to apply even if they are unsure whether they meet the eligibility requirements.
